Pro-cras-ti-na-tion (I Even Killed Time by Typing it That Way!)

Oh my goodness. Tomorrow is my British Art and Architecture final. Thus far in the class I have a B+, A-, and A. The trouble is that I simply can't be asked to study. In the words of Ron Livingston, "It's not that I'm lazy... it's that I just don't care." Amen, Ronnie.

Last night was nice and relaxing. Amar and I split a bottle of wine and watched two hours of Gossip Girl. If he reads this as he says he is going to, he's going to be very angry with me that I told all of you his guilty pleasure. However, I have no problem admitting it, therefore I don't understand why he should. GG is fab. Plus, did any of you see the episode from last week? INTENSE. Amar and I like to judge the beauty aspect of the show. For instance, he claims that Serena is hotter than Blair. I disagree, but to be fair he's got a thing for blondes. This is what we do on a Saturday night, and to be honest I kind of like it that way. It's better than doing revision for an exam that I couldn't care less about. Oy.

OK, seriously though - isn't Blair, the brunette, hotter?

He's crazy. Also, in my plight to not do any work whatsoever I bought Spring Awakening tickets to see the two leads' last performance (May 18, 7 PM). Of course, Jonathan and I have all summer to fall in love so I'm not particularly emotional about it. I'm not sure what else I can do, save more google image surfing (which I'm not above, believe me). Maybe I'll eat a sandwich. Or walk back home in the rain... because... yeah. It started pouring on my way here, I didn't have my umbrella because I can't find it, and I'm wearing the one shirt I own that is see through when wet. Walking down Gloucester Road I wanted to shout "I know! I know!" to everyone that gave me a look before walking past me. Aren't Europeans supposed to into that kind of thing? In New York some form of maintenance man would have just whistled at me or smiled. They wouldn't have subjected me to judgement. In fact, I'd go as far to say that that type of behaviour would be encouraged. Don't worry Dad, it's not a habitual pattern or anything like that. I'm just saying.

You know you love me. XOXO.

E-Mail of the Day

I received this email yesterday afternoon, from our own Miss Alexandra Litzman the official head of IC After Dark for the 2008-2009 year. I think every confirmation letter should read like so:
Hello. I am writing you to offer you the position of executive secretary of After Dark for the 2008-2009 school year. I am only offering you this if you promise to come home and never leave me again. Thank you. If you accept the position please let me know as soon as possible. I look forward to working with you in the future.

xx
Ally
Oh, Ally. I could never leave you again.

A Kindly Request

ELLE is in the news. I know. I've heard.
  1. I don't know what the story is with Nina. If the company has yet to confirm a story, a lowly intern in the PR and marketing departments is not going to be informed before Reuters. Or, more importantly, Women's Wear Daily.
  2. Yes. Some organization does seem to have pulled one over on the magazine. No, I've not heard the specifics. Yes, the magazine is investigating.
Please stop e-mailing me. Thank you.

No Excuses... but I'm Back? Is That Good Enough?

The month of April has been adventuresome, heartbreaking, exciting, devastating, and wet. Very wet. But as I've said before you can't dress in this city, so I currently have my rain boots on and the sun is shining but I swear that it was raining when I left the house this morning. And it will probably rain again this afternoon because its London and I don't know if I've mentioned this before but this town's got a serious disorder of some kind. Whilst Ithaca, New York is sunny and beautiful, London, England is going through some kind of schizophrenic rejuvenation. I don't know. Whatever.

Early April saw Adam's departure (sad), new people, and the yellow 'spring' shirts for Starbucks employees. By the way, I now not only not have to order but I also get Grandes for half the price. Sweet. As far as the Notting Hill Gate Starbucks status goes, I'm a rock star. And I like it. Since the beginning of April I've been doing a lot more writing, which possibly explains my absence from this project. I've been organizing myself for the summer as well, being in contact with the stage manager for Shakespeare in the Park (I'm determined) and Farrar, Straus, and Giroux. The talks have gone well on all accounts and I'm confident that this summer will be every bit as exciting and challenging as I expect it to be.

Mid-April brought a new friend who quickly became a thing of the past, Dublin greenery, and the realization that I am ready to come home. But that's the thing about this place. In a city that moves so fast, with so many people zipping in and out - none of them aimless in their ambitions - sometimes you only get a moment with somebody else. I've learned to add these moments together and stitch a story from the anecdotes I've met. I don't know how else to make since of it but I guess that's a part of it. You know... that whole growing up/maturing thing. I used to think that for somebody to be a part of your life they had to be there forever, but now I understand that it only takes one conversation to alter the course of... I don't even know. A lot of things. Personal ethos? Sure its a bit heavy but that's just the way stuff has been here.

Dublin was... Guinness, Bailey's, and Magners. Basically. We went on a musical pub crawl which was really fun and bizarre. These two Irish musicians played troubadour to us tourists and got us tipsy enough to all sing along to traditional Irish songs. Some people danced but I wasn't sloshed enough for that kind of thing. Thank god because Bill was there with the camera and there's no doubt in my mind that those pictures are going to end up in the end of term slide show. Some things don't need to be reminisced about like that, no? We did the whole James Joyce thing whilst in Dublin as well, which for me was a very cathartic experience. Even though I'm pretty positive that I didn't understand very much of Ulysses when I read it last summer the point is that I DID read it. Therefore I was well aware of Sandy Cove and the infamous opening scene that took place in the tower that is now the James Joyce Museum. We climbed up a mountain (seriously) and got some really cool views around the city. Bill sort of fudged it and called the walk a walk, not the hike that it was... but to be fair if he had said what it really was I probably would have just peaced out to Grafton Street (the main shopping strip in Dublin). Clearly he knew his audience. The views were very worth it though. On Sunday I hit Grafton Street and found a really great book store called Dub Ray books. Judy Picoult was going to be doing a talk there this week, and I was very impressed. Not that I've read any of her books, but I feel like I've seen them floating around my mother's bedroom.

This pretty much brings us up to date. Currently it is the week before finals, which brings all kinds of fun and stress into the equation. Most notably the fact that I am going to be home in 13 days. I never thought that I would be ready to leave London but I'm ready to start life in New York. And to all you Londoners that claim New York is rubbish, I beg to differ. You are wrong. It's that simple. If you ever make the venture over I will be sure to escort you around the city, and show you what you are missing! I feel like I've done what I have to do over here. I will miss the excitement of meeting new people and having a great conversations with complete strangers but I figure that there are enough people in New York to sustain me. Especially if I'm bouncing between the cultural vortex's of FSG and Shakespeare in the Park. Now I must go and work on actual work, aka my final paper for European Mass Media and my final drama review. For the record, it is now raining and thundering. I rest my case. I miss you all, and I would like to request macaroni and cheese upon my return. Thank you.

File Under "Whoops" Catagory

I love campaign season. I love love the gimmicks campaign advisers concoct. I love love love when it blows up in their faces.

But most of all, I enjoy the fact that these politicians at one point said, "Yes! That DOES sound like a swell idea!"

And for good measure, watch the video of an African American man holding an umbrella over McCain's head as he made that speech. I believe this is what one would refer to as poor form.

God Bless America.

Super Cute Pic

This is Carolyn's friend Taryn who I absolutely fell in love with when she was here visiting a few weeks ago! This is a picture that we took at The Champion, a pub that we went to with Carolyn and her brother Matt. I wanted to share it here because I thought it was just too cruel to keep it to myself.

I've Been a Horrid Blogist

I am so sorry. Please don't shun me away from your daily hits category!! Life here has been busy and it's starting to dawn on my that in a month I will be home. Therefore I am living the London life to the nth degree, getting it all out there so I will feel ready to come home. So where to start...

I've seen some wonderful theatre, including Dealer's Choice and Billy Elliot. I walked into Billy Elliot last night prepared to absolutely hate it but I was pleasantly surprised! The show is opening on Broadway in the near future (I believe that they are casting now) and if you are in the tri-state area you must go when it comes. It will blow your mind. Dealer's Choice was excellent as well. It had a fantastic cast and it was written by Patrick Marber (Closer) a great, complicated playwright. I think that Dealer's Choice would bode well in the US, particularly as we are sort of lacking in straight dramas. Unless you want to venture in the abyss of August:Osage County. But that's another story.

Continuing on my cultural streak, I visited the National Portrait Gallery last weekend to see an exhibit that I had to write a paper on. I say "had" like it's the past tense. It's not. It's due Monday but I feel that if I ignore it and speak about it like it's a past event than it will just go away. I'm determined that it can really be that easy. Also at the National Portrait Gallery was an exhibit of famous Vanity Fair photographs dating back to 1913. They were amazing! I also scored in the gift shop - a black sex pistols bag for 5 pounds. Sweet. That night I went out to Zoo Bar with Josh, Alyssa, Carolyn, Libby, and Abby. It was alright. As I've said about a thousand times, clubbing isn't really my thing. But I wore a great dress so I guess that's all that matters.

Since then I'm been focusing on my career as a writer in New York City. Even writing that sentence scares me. I've set up a myspace as an outlet for my writing pieces and networking among other artistic peers in New York, and I've begun to seriously consider working for the Shakespeare in the Park festival, put on by the Public Theater every summer. Although it will be six nights a week I do think that it would be a valuable use of my time. I would be able to meet a lot of different types of people, including a certain special someone. That's right. The love of my life, J. Groff is going to be in Hair. Remember when I told you that we were going to be best friends? You all thought I was kidding. How cute. What now? Seriously though I've been thinking a lot about what I actually want to be doing post-graduation. Post.Grad-u-a-tion. Hmm. That's a scary idea.

Adam's going away party was quite nice. Met some cool people, had a good time, etc. The festivities are going to continue on this evening, though I'm not sure if I'm going to partake yet. All of these people leaving has made me really start to see the end of my time in London in a real way. I think that it's going to be a hard transition, which is another reason that I want to be very busy this summer. Between FSG and the Public Theater - not to mention all of the awesome new friends I'm going to meet ;) - I'm going to be all set in the distraction/self-development area.

Senior registration is this Monday, so I should be getting all my classes in order for next term. Where has this year gone? Spring has sprung, the flowers are blooming, the kids are out in Hyde Park and I've got to be sure to do these last few weeks up right!
